What are restoration options for thin or thinning hair?
What causes hair to thin over time?

You may have noticed that many men with thinning hair retain hair on the sides and back of the head.  These hair and follicles are resistant to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT).  DHT is the primary cause of male-pattern hair loss.  Given this resistance to DHT, the hair and follicles from these areas are used in hair transplantation.  When transplanted, they retain resistance to DHT and essentially will continue to grow forever where genetically sensitive hair failed.

Women have a general thinning throughout the scalp that can begin around the time of menopause when estrogen levels lower and are unable to counter the effects of DHT.

Levels of hair loss are illustrated by the Norwood Scale for men and the Ludwig Scale for women.

What are the available solutions for thinning hair?

Hair transplantation, including the new FUE procedure, is the only permanent solution to hair loss.  The procedure is relatively simple and is typically complete within 3/4 to 1 full day.  Bosley permanent hair restoration is available at Regional Surgical Offices located throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.  To find the office nearest you use the Bosley Office Locator tool.
