Surgical hair transplantation is the permanent solution to hair loss. This relatively simple procedure involves transplanting hairs and follicles from one area of the head to areas of thinning and baldness. The transplanted hairs and follicles are resistant to the hormone DHT, which is the primary cause of hair loss.
The Follicular Unit Extraction procedure (FUE) eliminates the thin, fine scar that typically accompanies the FUT procedure. This is accomplished by individual follicular units of 1-3 hairs (sometimes 4) being extracted from the donor area and transplanted to areas of thinning and baldness. When transplanted, these DHT resistant hairs will essentially continue to grow where genetically sensitive hair failed.
The typical Bosley hair transplant procedure takes 3/4 to one full day to complete and is performed at a Regional Surgical Office.
Other hair loss treatments are available that could become part of your complete treatment plan as decided by you and your Bosley physician.
Minoxidil is the most common treatment for hair loss and is part of Bosley Professional Strength for Men and Professional Strength for Women. These 5-step systems include Nourishing Shampoo, Volumizing Conditioner, Hair Regrowth Treatment, Dietary Supplement and Follicle Energizer.
Propecia is a prescription drug for men only that was approved by the FDA In 1997. Propecia® effectively helps stop hair loss by reducing the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is the primary cause of male-pattern hair loss, where hair thins around the temples and crown of the head. Classes of hair loss for men are illustrated by the Norwood Scale while the Ludwig Scale illustrates classes of hair loss for women.
The Bosley LaserComb Elite® helps stimulate the scalp and promotes hair growth* while providing the convenience of in-home use.
Propecia® was approved by the FDA in 1997 and is a prescription medication for men only. Propecia® effectively reduces the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which can help to stop or slow down hair loss. This medication will not bring back hair that has already been lost but does help to maintain the hair you have. Propecia® must be taken on a daily basis or results gained could be lost.
*Individual results may vary. Your hair grows at a slow pace. Increases in the number of hairs in one specific location (hair density) are difficult to notice and are not immediately visible. A typical user will notice some increase in hair density within the first few weeks. Over time you will begin to re-grow hair.
