The only permanent solution to hair loss is hair transplant surgery. However, there are other FDA approved hair loss treatments that could become part of your complete treatment plan as decided by you and your Bosley physician. These hair loss treatments include Minoxidil, Propecia® and the Bosley LaserComb.
Minoxidil, which is the most common treatment for hair loss, is part of 5-step Bosley Professional Strength for Men and Professional Strength for Women. Included are:
- Nourishing Shampoo
- Volumizing Conditioner
- Hair Regrowth Treatment
- Dietary Supplement
- Follicle Energizer
In 1997 the FDA approved a prescription drug for the treatment of male pattern hair loss (androgenitic alopecia). Propecia® effectively helps hair loss to stop by reducing the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is the primary cause of hair loss in men.
Propecia® will help to maintain the hair you have but will not bring back hair that has already been lost. Propecia® is taken daily and is prescribed to men only with results being a slow process of up to 12 months.
The Bosley LaserComb is a hand-held device that is applied to thinning areas for 10-15 minutes, three times per week.
The typical hair restoration surgery takes 3/4 to one full day to complete. Given local anesthesia is used, Bosley patients often read, watch movies, listen to music and even sleep during the procedure.
Bosley hair transplant patient’s results can be seen in the Bosley Interactive Gallery. The gallery includes before and after pictures of men and women from a variety of hair loss classifications. Male-pattern hair loss classes are illustrated by the Norwood Scale while women’s hair loss classes are illustrated by the Ludwig Scale.
The Bosley Gallery also includes interactive tools that provide insight into the results attainable with Bosley permanent hair restoration. Tools include the Hair Restorer Photobooth, Before and After Slider, and Hairline Magnifier.
