Bosley Hair Transplant Procedure Details – FUT and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Bosley Medical has performed more hair transplant procedures than any other medical group on the world and has also pioneered many of the advancements in hair transplant surgery. Technological advancements in hair restoration combined with the skill and artistry of Bosley physicians are what create a perfectly natural look and restored hairline that is virtually undetectable.
One of the most recent advancements in hair transplant surgery is the Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE technique.
Before and after results of Bosley Medical permanent hair restoration can be seen in the Bosley Interactive Gallery.
Using the FUE technique, a Bosley physician extracts individual follicular units of 1-3 hairs (sometimes 4) from the donor area and transplants them to areas of thinning or baldness. In men, the donor area is on the sides and back of the head where the hair and follicles are resistant to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is the primary cause of male-pattern hair loss.
The FUT procedure differs from the FUE in that a complete strip is taken from the donor area. The follicular units are then dissected from the donor strip and transplanted to areas of thinning or baldness. The FUT procedure typically results in a thin, fine scar that is easily concealed by the remaining hair.
The 5 general steps of the Bosley FUE procedure are:
1: The Bosley physician begins to map out the hair line while carefully considering facial dimensions and an age-appropriate look.
2: The donor area is prepped for shaving and anesthesia.
3: The Bosley physician begins to extract the follicles. Follicles can contain anywhere from 1-3 hairs.
4: The Bosley physician creates the sites for placement of the follicles. Specific depth, angle and location are used to create a perfectly natural look.
5: The graphs are artistically placed into the sites.
