Bosley hair restoration is a remarkably simple outpatient procedure that is the only permanent solution to hair loss.  The typical Bosley patient will spend one half to one full day to complete the hair transplant surgery.  Given local anesthesia is used, Bosley patients often watch their favorite movies, read, listen to music and even sleep during the procedure.

Bosley physicians have a minimum of 10 years surgical experience and have been trained extensively in the art of hair restoration.  Facial structure along with current hairline, coarseness of hair, hair color and curl are all carefully taken into consideration by Bosley physicians. In addition, Bosley physicians must consider the current age of the patient and the long-term appearance when developing a treatment plan. Bosley physicians take into account future hair loss to ensure that the hair restoration looks good next year but also 20-30 years from now.

The slideshow at the bottom of this page is of a Bosley patient and shows pictures not only before and after his procedure but also during.

The actual procedure is explained further in these 5 steps with accompanying video series.
Though hair transplant surgery is the only permanent solution to hair loss, there are other FDA approved or accepted solutions that could be part of your complete treatment plan as decided by you and your Bosley physician.  These solutions include Propecia®, Minoxidil and the Bosley LaserComb.

The Bosley LaserComb® is the latest innovation approved by the FDA and the only drug-free treatment for male pattern baldness. The Bosley LaserComb® uses 9 individual laser beams with just the right amount of energy to help promote growth and stimulate follicles.  The Bosley LaserComb is easy to use, just use on thinning areas of the scalp three times per week for 10-15 minutes.  This method is optimal after permanent hair restoration surgery and to maintain existing hair.

The most common treatment for male-pattern baldness has been a topical solution called Minoxidil, which was approved in 1988 by the FDA. Minoxidil has been proven in some cases to slow down or help stop hair loss on the vertex of the head. This has only been effective in some cases and has demonstrated little effect on frontal hair loss where most men have the greatest concern. Frontal hair loss is the hair line or temples where many men begin to recede.

Minoxidil can only be effective if taken on a daily basis. Any results gained from the use of Minoxidil will be lost if daily treatment stops.

Today there are two strengths of Minoxidil available with 2% available for women and 5% for men.

Propecia® is a prescription drug for men only that helps reduce the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT).  DHT is the primary cause of male-pattern hair loss where the hair thins around the temples and crown of the head.  Propecia® can help you keep the hair you have but cannot regrow hair that has already been lost.
