In men “donor hair” comes from the sides and back of the head where the hair and follicles are resistant to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is the primary cause of male-pattern hair loss where hair gradually thins on the crown and around the temples.
When transplanted, “donor hair” retains its resistance to DHT. This resistance allows the “donor hair” to essentially grow forever where genetically sensitive hair failed.
The procedure is remarkably simple and done on an outpatient basis, typically taking one half to one full day to complete. Given local anesthesia is used, Bosley patients often watch their favorite movie, read books, listen to music and even sleep during the procedure.
Hair transplant surgery is the only permanent solution to hair loss. However, there are other FDA approved or accepted solutions that could be part of your complete treatment plan as decided by you and your Bosley physician. These treatments include Propecia® (a prescription drug for men only), Minoxidil (the most common treatment) and the new Bosley LaserComb.

Bosley LaserComb
The only drug-free treatment for hair loss accepted by the FDA is the Bosley LaserComb. This latest innovation uses 9 individual laser beams with just the right amount of energy to help promote growth and stimulate hair follicles.
The process is simple, apply to thinning areas for 10-15 minutes, three times per week.
The Bosley LaserComb is not ideal for advanced hair loss. However, it may be used with pre-operative and post-operative patients after a permanent hair restoration procedure.
