Follicular unit hair transplantation is a technology where individual hair follicles are transplanted from areas where you have more than you need to areas that are thinning or bald.  These individual hair follicles typically have 1-4 hairs and come from the sides and back of the head.

You’ve probably noticed in men that they tend to retain hair in these areas even if they are completely bald on top.  This is due to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is the primary cause of male-pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia).  Hair on the sides and back of the head is resistant to this hormone ergo its use in permanent hair restoration.

When transplanted, these hair and follicles retain this resistance and essentially will continue to grow forever where hair and follicles sensitive to DHT failed.

But it’s not just this incredible micro-technology that creates natural looking results, the much larger part is due to the skill and artistry of Bosley physicians.

Generally speaking, the procedure, which is remarkably simple and is done on an outpatient basis, will take anywhere from 3/4 to one full day.
