Estimates show that over 40 million men in the U.S. experience some noticeable degree of male pattern baldness, which is known as androgenetic alopecia.  This pattern typically results in thinning around the temples (area above the eyebrows) and also on the crown.

This thinning typically occurs when men are middle-aged but many men still experience noticeable hair loss in their twenties while a smaller portion can experience it in their late teens.

The Norwood Scale is used to classify degrees of hair loss in men.  This scale is illustrated in the Bosley Patient Gallery, where before and after pictures of patients with varying degrees of initial hair loss and their results after permanent hair restoration are displayed.

Also available to better understand the natural looking results achieved by permanent hair restoration is the Bosley Multi-Media Gallery.  With this gallery, you have the ability to use a flash slider for a better and more direct comparison of results for Bosley patients.  Classes 3,4 and 5 are represented.

Hair restoration surgery is the only permanent solution to hair loss.  However, there are other solutions that are accepted or approved by the FDA that can be used as part of a complete treatment plan as designed by you and your Bosley physician.

The latest innovation approved by the FDA is the Bosley LaserComb®.  It’s also the only drug-free treatment for male pattern baldness.  The Bosley LaserComb® uses nine individual laser beams with just the right amount of energy to help stimulate hair follicles and promote growth.

This hand-held device is applied to thinning areas for 10-15 minutes three times per week.

The Bosley LaserComb® is not ideal for advanced hair loss but may be used with pre-operative and post-operative patients after a permanent hair restoration procedure.

Propecia® is a drug prescribed to men only that was approved by the FDA in 1997.  Propecia® effectively reduces the formation of DHT helping hair loss to stop.  Propecia® will not bring back the hair you’ve already lost but will help to maintain the hair you have.  Results from Propecia® are a slow process and can take up to 12 months when taken daily.

Along with the Bosley Lasercomb, Propecia® could become part of your complete treatment plan.  Read more about Propecia® and the Bosley Lasercomb.
