Bosley has been featured in a number of news media stories featuring hair restoration for men and women, eyebrow restoration, the evolution of hair transplantation, what the future holds for the procedure and more.

Media outlets that have covered Bosley range from The New York Times to The Tyra Banks Show and Newsweek, each featuring a unique segment on hair loss solutions.

The New York Times featured an article called Does He or Doesn’t He? It’s Harder to Tell.  The general idea behind this article is that hair transplantation has evolved significantly since the days of “hair plugs”, which are now a thing of the past.

Today follicular unit hair transplantation is used in lieu of the scoops of skin.  This micro-technology allows Bosley physicians to transplant individual hair and follicles, which can contain 1-4 hairs each.  Hair and follicles are taken from where you have more than you need i.e. the sides and back of the head, and transplanted to thinning or bald areas.

You’ve probably noticed in many men, even those completely bald on top, that they retain the hair on the sides and back of the head, creating a horse shoe appearance.  It is these hair and follicles that are resistant to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT).  DHT, which causes hair at the temples and crown of the head to thin over time, is the primary cause of male-pattern hair loss.

In men, hair on the sides and back of the head is resistant to this hormone ergo its use in permanent hair restoration.  Transplanted hair retains this resistance and will continue to grow where genetically sensitive hair failed.

But permanent hair restoration is not just for men.  In fact, the FDA estimates that approximately 40 million men experience hair loss but also 20 million women.

Results for men and women with varying stages of initial hair loss can be seen in the Bosley Patient Gallery. Degrees of hair loss are illustrated in the Norwood Scale for men and the Ludwig Scale for women.
