Data released by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons (ISHRS) shows that 9 in 10 women in

their thirties would be very concerned about losing their hair, while a similar percentage (88%) would be concerned if they were at the beginning of their career and were experiencing noticeable hair loss.
Though many associate hair restoration with men, new statistics show that permanent hair restoration procedures for women has risen to almost 14% of patients in 2006.
Hair is important for social communication, sexual attraction and acts as a marker for identity. 15% of women experience some degree of noticeable hair loss by the age of 30. This is approximately 40 million women in the United States, most of whom do not feel it is normal or acceptable.
Men have dealt with hair loss as a fact of life and with that has come a variety of medical remedies. Recently however, women, who are far less intimidated by surgical procedures than men, have begun to explore similar options with remarkable results. Hair restoration being a permanent solution, has turned women away from wigs and volumizing hair care products.
More women are opting for hair transplantation as they educate themselves on the facts of female pattern baldness. This pattern is different than that of men who lose hair along the hairline, which then progresses to the back of the scalp. Women do not generally see an alteration of their hairline, but rather, an overall thinning resulting in hair you can see through as they age.
Scales are used to better define levels of hair loss for men and women. The Norwood Scale is used for men while the Ludwig Scale is used for women. Both of these scales along with Bosley patients from each classification and their results after permanent hair restoration can be seen in the Bosley Patient Gallery.
Many women will not be candidates for hair transplantation given they do not experience pattern baldness like men. However, very good results can be obtained for most women. Only a Bosley physician can determine if you are a candidate for permanent hair restoration.
