Polls have consistently shown that men and women feel hair loss creates a disadvantage in daily life, politics, business and romance.  With this, many treatment options have been created ranging from pills and creams to transplants, not all being beneficial.

Socially, hair loss is considered a detriment but it’s also entered the career advancement realm where it’s now considered an impediment.

Hair loss treatments have always been sought by those in the public eye e.g. athletes, attorneys, actors and public personalities but now treatments are sought by men and women from every walk of life in an effort to achieve success in a highly competitive world.

Results from permanent hair restoration today are natural-looking with restored hairlines that are virtually undetectable.  Advanced techniques and micro-technologies are used along with the skill and artistry of Bosley physicians.

Men and women lose hair in different patterns.  Classifications of male-pattern and female-pattern hair loss are defined in the Norwood Scale for men and the Ludwig Scale for women.  Patients from each classification as well as their results after permanent hair restoration can be seen in the Bosley Patient Gallery.

A permanent hair restoration procedure involves about 10-20% surgical skill, while 80-90% is a result of artistry by the physician.  This artistry first involves designing an age-appropriate hairline taking into account facial features. Follicular unit transplantation then allows the physician to place follicles that contain 1-4 hairs artistically.  Thinner, smaller groupings are placed toward the front, while thicker, larger groupings are placed toward the back.  Follicles are placed with specific location, angle and depth.

With hair transplant revision it’s possible in some cases to help patients who are dissatisfied with their old grafts, particularly those that occur along the hairline.  Typically these are the doll-like plugs from many years ago that were very primitive but also includes hairlines that were made far too low.

Dr. Ken Washenik, Medical Director, Bosley Medical, explains “A physician who practices hair transplantation must know the classical rules of facial dimensions.  He or she must develop a sculptor’s keen sense of balance and proportion and a portrait painter’s sense of refinement in blending and shading.”

Hair restoration done properly will have a completely natural look and will remain attractive now and in the future.
