In men, the primary cause of hair loss is the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT causes hair to slowly thin to the point that it eventually falls out resulting in male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia).
The degrees of male pattern baldness are illustrated in the Norwood Scale. The Bosley Patient Gallery features patients from Norwood classifications 2-6 and their results after permanent hair restoration. This gallery includes videos and access to some Bosley patients.
Seth Garon’s experience with Bosley permanent hair restoration is documented in a complete video series. This series includes his initial consultations with a Bosley Senior Counselor, consultations with a Bosley physician in Seattle, the actual procedure step-by-step and progress afterward.

You’ve probably noticed that many men retain the hair on the sides and back of the head. This is because the hair and follicles in these areas are resistant to DHT, ergo their use in permanent hair restoration. When these hair and follicles are transplanted, they retain their resistance and will continue to grow without any impact from DHT.
Hair restoration surgery is a remarkably simple outpatient procedure that is the only permanent solution to hair loss, however, there are other hair loss treatment options that have been approved or accepted by the FDA.
In 1997 the FDA approved a prescription drug for men only, for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. Propecia® effectively helps stop hair loss by reducing the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
Propecia® could be part of a complete treatment program developed by you and your Bosley physician.
The most common treatment for hair loss is Minoxidil, which is a topical solution approved in 1988 by the FDA. Minoxidil has been proven in some cases to help stop or slow down hair loss on the vertex (crown) of the head. However, this solution has shown little effect on frontal hair loss, meaning the temples or hair line. The temples and hair line are where many men begin to recede and have great concern.
The only drug-free treatment for hair loss accepted by the FDA is the Bosley LaserComb. This latest innovation uses 9 individual laser beams with just the right amount of energy to help promote growth and stimulate hair follicles.
The Bosley LaserComb is not ideal for advanced hair loss. However, it may be used with pre-operative and post-operative patients after a permanent hair restoration procedure.
