Bosley Medical Permanent Hair Restoration
Bosley hair restoration is the only permanent solution to hair loss. The procedure, which is available to both men and women, is remarkably simple and done on an outpatient basis.
For men and women the primary cause of hair loss is heredity. However, as Ken Washenik, M.D., Ph.D, Medical Director of Bosley, explains in this video, there could be other causes that range from auto-immune disorders, reactions to certain medications, to pregnancy and childbirth. Dr. Washnenik continues by saying that if you believe you’re losing you’re hair, you are, and you should see your physician to determine the cause of your hair loss.
For many, the cause will be genetic. For men this is male pattern hair loss and for women it is female pattern hair loss.
The primary cause of male pattern hair loss is more specifically the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone). This hormone causes hair follicles to close off slowly. Over time, hairs become miniaturized and eventually fall out causing male pattern baldness.

Follicular Units of 1-4 Hairs
The hair and follicles on the sides and back of the head are resistant to the effects of DHT. In permanent hair transplantation, these hairs and follicles are taken from where you have more than you need (sides and back of the head) and moved to bald or thinning areas. The hair and follicles’ resistance to DHT remains, even when transplanted, causing the hair to thrive where genetically sensitive hair failed.
Bosley hair transplantation uses state-of-the-art follicular unit techniques. These microtechnologies that are used today, create restored hairlines that are virtually undetectable, resulting in a completely natural look. The follicular unit techniques used at Bosley Medical look so natural that we challenge you to differentiate transplanted hair from non-transplanted hair.
Bosley patient before and after photos, interactive images, videos and even email contact to some Bosley patients are available in the Patient Gallery and the Multimedia Gallery. Both galleries show multiple Norwood Scale classes of patients and their results.
Additional details on Bosley Permanent hair restoration are available in this article, which includes a typical day for a Bosley patient and a full multi-piece video series. The video series documents Bosley patient, Seth Garon’s, experience with Bosley Medical. You’ll be able to view his consultations with a Senior Counselor, Bosley physician, Dr. James Winans of Seattle, Washington and the actual procedure as it is performed.

Permanent Hair Restoration
While men experience male pattern baldness (androgenitic alopecia), women experience female pattern hair loss. Women lose hair in a different pattern than men do with thinning behind the hairline. Although the pattern of hair loss differs, the treatment procedure is similar for men and women.
It is estimated that over 20 million women in the U.S. are experiencing some degree of female pattern baldness.
