Ken Washenik, M.D., Ph.D, Medical Director of Bosley, was interviewed on CBS Morning News in New York on women’s hair loss and hair restoration.

This segment discusses how almost 40 million women experience hair loss in the U.S., many of them in their 30’s.  Dr. Washenik explains that the primary cause of hair loss in both men and women continues to be genetics.  However, there are other potential causes:

-autoimmune disorders
-thyroid disorders
-illness
-medications
-pregnancy/childbirth
-harsh chemical treatments

Dr. Washenik continues to explain these categories and provides examples of each and how they could cause hair loss.  For example, blood pressure medications or even illness with fever could be a cause, but when the potential causes above are removed, it will come down to genetics.  Dr. Washenik advises seeing your physician to determine the cause of your hair loss.  If it’s determined that genetics is the cause and the temporary causes have been effectively ruled out, permanent hair restoration could be an option for both men and women.
