Bosley Medical > Permanent Hair Restoration

There are solutions to male pattern baldness (androgenitic alopecia).  Among them are Minoxidil, Propecia®, the new Bosley LaserComb® and the only permanent solution, hair restoration surgery.

Propecia® was approved by the FDA in 1997 to treat male pattern baldness.  It is a prescription drug for men only that effectively blocks the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is the primary cause of hair loss in men.  Propecia® can help to maintain the hair you have but will not regrow hair.  Propecia® can be helpful in pre-operative and/or post-operative patients.

Minoxidil (approved by the FDA in 1988) is a topical treatment that is the most common treatment for male pattern baldness.  Minoxidil has been proven in some cases to slow down or help stop hair loss on the vertex of the head.  However, it must be applied daily for best results.  Any results gained will be lost if application stops.

The new Bosley LaserComb® is the latest innovation approved by the FDA and the only drug-free treatment for male pattern baldness.  It is also the first and only medical device accepted by the FDA to promote hair growth.  The Bosley LaserComb® is not ideal for advanced stages of hair loss.  However, it can be used on preoperative and/or postoperative patients to obtain the best results after hair restoration surgery.

Though comparable effectiveness has been seen in clinical trials for women, the FDA has not yet cleared the Bosley LaserComb® for women.

Permanent hair restoration surgery is a remarkably simple outpatient procedure that involves the transplanting of hairs and follicles from one area of the head to another.  Bosley Medical was founded in 1974 by Dr. L. Lee Bosley, M.D., who has personally performed more than 32,500 procedures.  Now, Dr. Bosley helps to personally select and train the M.D.’s affiliated with the company, all of which have a minimum of 10 years surgical experience.

Bosley permanent hair restoration is described in 5 basic steps as well as in this video series of Seth Garon (a Bosley patient).  Seth began losing his hair in his 30’s.  After being unsatisfied with the temporary solutions, he opted for permanent hair restoration surgery with Bosley.

The slideshow below documents the long, thick hair Seth had in his 20’s while in a rock band, the thinning that came later, his procedure and the results afterward.
