Hair restoration technology and available solutions have come a long way. Currently available solutions include the Bosley LaserComb®, Minoxidil and Propecia® (all FDA accepted) and the only permanent hair restoration solution, hair transplantation.

The Bosley LaserComb®, the most recently added solution, and Propecia®, a prescription drug for men, typically work well only for men with early stage hair loss. However, both may be very useful as part of a broader treatment program. Propecia® is often prescribed by a Bosley physician in conjunction with permanent hair restoration, and many find that using the Bosley LaserComb® enhances the result of their hair restoration procedure.

Since 1974 Dr. Bosley has contended that most any surgeon could be trained technically in hair restoration. However, it is the experience and artistic ability of the surgeon that makes the results virtually undetectable and natural.

All Bosley physicians have a minimum of 10 years surgical experience, are board certified or have equivalent credentials and are carefully selected based on their surgical skill. Bosley physicians are then trained extensively in the artistry of hair restoration.

Facial structure along with current hairline, coarseness of hair, hair color and curl are all carefully taken into consideration by Bosley physicians. In addition, Bosley physicians must consider the current age of the patient and the long-term appearance when developing a treatment plan. Bosley physicians take into account future hair loss to ensure that the hair restoration looks good next year but also 20-30 years from now.

Hairlines, perhaps the most important part of the hair transplant, must receive special care in design and creation – especially with regard to the patient’s age. Bosley physicians create hairlines that are age appropriate for the most natural looking results.

Bosley Restored Hairlines

We discussed in our recent hair loss series how a permanent hair restoration is performed from the consultation stage to the final result. It is the natural hairline created with artistic skill and technical expertise by the Bosley physician that is so important.

Today, with the latest hair restoration technology, Bosley’s procedures create natural results that are achieved by transplanting and placing hair follicles in a manner that mimics how they occur naturally.

A natural looking hairline has fewer, finer hairs toward the front and thicker, larger groupings of hairs toward the back. A grouping of hairs (follicular unit) can range from 1-4 hairs. These groupings are completely random and grow in multiple directions.

Bosley physicians recreate this naturalness by carefully selecting follicular units from the donor area on the sides and back of the head. These follicular units are then carefully placed in multiple directions with finer hairs toward the front and thicker toward the back to create a natural and virtually undetectable hairline. Even units with a single hair are placed to create the most natural look.
